Technology Project Proposal

Project Focus: I will explore the importance of vocabulary teaching and learning in an EFL context and will explore some of the tools (both digital and analog) students can use to develop their vocabulary knowledge.

Learning Goals: Without the appropriate breadth of vocabulary knowledge, my students are unable to clearly communicate in English. It is therefore very important to incorporate vocabulary instruction in the classroom, the only venue students actually hear, speak, read and write in English. I hope to gain a general perspective of the strategies used to foster vocabulary development in an EFL context. I hope to be able to incorporate more technology-based activities to engage students in the study of vocabulary, thus increasing retention.

Technology Project Type: I envision a website that offers teachers instructional strategies on the teaching and learning of vocabular, perhaps with a couple of technology-oriented activities.

Technology Project Background Information:
I worked on a qualitative study on the receptive vocabulary knowledge of students attending an IEP in the Middle East for my QP. I would like to use this analysis as the basis of the importance of vocabulary instruction. I would like to add different strategies teachers can use in their classrooms for vocab instruction, possibly looking at different apps students can use to develop their vocab.
